INDION REED BED SYSTEM is a specially engineered simulation of natural wetland ecosystem, for treatment of various kinds of wastewater. It is used for removal of Organic matter in the form BOD, & COD; odor and suspended solids from sewage or industrial wastewater. The system looks like a nice, attractive flowering garden. It requires almost zero operation & maintenance. More over it suppresses odours and takes care of sludge management.

INDION REED BED SYSTEM combines the functions done by aeration tank, secondary clarifier and sludge handling mechanism in a single, operationally simple and beautiful unit.

Working Principle

Wastewater, clarified through the sedimentation tank, is made to pass through the Reed bed which is made of various layers of locally available material, properly graded & specialised media. The network of roots of acclimated plants supplies oxygen to the aerobic & facultative bacteria introduced in the bed. With the help of these bacteria, organic matter in the wastewater is converted to carbon dioxide & water. Sludge sediments or gets filtered through the media and is digested in situ. The result of this is treated water at the outlet end.

With several different species, our INDION REED BED SYSTEM provides biodiverse poly-culture of wetland plants. The root systems of these plants grow to different levels & harbor different kinds of microbes thus creating further scope for increasing diversity in the Reed Bed

As the plants used in the INDION REED BED SYSTEM are from different species they have root systems reaching to different levels in the bed medium. Further they harbor different types of microbes. This increases the bio-diversity of the entire system. Some of these microbes are aerobic, the others facultative and still others are anaerobic.

The root hair of acclimated plants give out oxygen in their surroundings, in this region the aerobic microbes survive. Away from this the oxygen level starts depleting. Here the facultative populations thrive. Still away from this is the region of no oxygen. Here thrive the anaerobic bacteria.
